Fantasy Football Duds or Duds Week 11

Welcome to Dudes or Duds. I am here to tell you what players are all hype and which players are the real deal. The Dude or Dud posts will tell you not only who you should pick up, but the posts should tell you who to trade for and who to not.

Dude

Baltimore Ravens QB: Lamar Jackson

Lamar Jackson is a “Dude” for week 11, however he a streamer this week. Joe Flacco has been declared uncertain to play this week with a hip injury. Some are calling this the start to the Lamar Jackson Era, but I would not call it the start just yet for the era. If Flacco is unable to play this week I believe that Lamar Jackson would be a great start as he is not only a threat in the air, but also on the ground. I predict the Raven’s QB to finish among the top 10 in quarterbacks if he plays week 11. I believe as long as the Raven’s are in contention for playoffs Flacco will be their guy when he is healthy.

Dude

Washington Redskins WR: Jaemis Crowder

Jaemis Crowder was not a player on my radar till I ran across an article on Sports Illustrated. The Redskins are atop the NFC East a whole 2 games ahead with a little more than half way to go through the season. Jaemis Crowder has been hurt with an ankle injury since week 5. The Redskins are a red hot team and they may get back a top target for Week 11 against a weak Texans secondary. Crowder has a great amount of upside and even in the off chance he does not play Week 11 pick him up for week 12 for the conference matchup against Dallas.

Dud

Seattle Seahawks RB: Rashad Penny

I have heard much hype around Rashad Penny after his 16 point effort this week. This San Diego State prospect shows a lot of promise in the years to come, but right now he is trapped in a committee with 2 backs I see getting many more touches. Mike Davis and Chris Carson switch back and forth between who is the back of the week in the Seahawks lineup and now we have a 3rd running competing for that gig. I would hold off on picking up Rashad Penny till next year or till we see a few consistent weeks from the rookie.

Dud

Carolina Panthers WR: Devin Funchess

Devin Funchess is a “Dud” for week 11. Devin Funchess scored 3 touchdowns between Week 3-7, but he has not scored since Week 8. Devin Funchess has seen a big decrease in volume. With the decrease in volume and lack of touchdowns I would not trust this Panthers receiver against a decent pass defense in Detroit. I would sit Funchess for Week 11.

Fantasy Football Dudes or Duds Week 9

Dude

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB: Ryan Fitzpatrick

Yes, once again a Tampa Bay Quarterback has been named a dude of the week. I stand by my previous post when I previously said Jaemis Winston was a good pick up and he was in fact a decent pick up for the time being as he performed well enough to put up a 20 point week and an 11 point week in my league. As these were decent fantasy outputs Winston has been unable to secure a win for the Bucs and this lead to him getting benched. The Buccaneers have a plethora of talent among their offense and Ryan Fitzpatrick thrives in Tampa Bay’s system. To start off the season Ryan Fitzpatrick was a top 5 QB and I believe his success will carry over to thee second half of the season. If Ryan Fitzpatrick is a free agent PICK HIM UP.

Dude

Denver Broncos WR: Courtland Sutton

The trade deadline has passed and Demaryius Thomas just got traded to the Houston Texans. What does this mean for the Broncos? Well it means Emanuel Sanders will see a spike in even more volume, but the slot receiver can not do everything for his team.  I believe the next man up is a 2018 2nd round draft pick that came out of Southern Methodist. Courtland Sutton should be the next man up in the receiver core. I do need to credit Rotowire who helped inform me of the potential value Sutton has. If you need some extra help at WR, I would recommend picking up Courtland Sutton.

Dud

Jacksonville Jaguars WR: Keelan Cole

Okay, so I may have made a mistake in a previous week when I recommend picking up this Jaguars WR. His volume output was very promising, but throughout the season he has been making countless mistakes. The Jaguar’s coaching staff definitely took notice to his mistakes as his snap count has been declining. After a few lackluster weeks Keelan Cole’s stock is at an all time low and I believe it is time to drop him.

Dud

Any Eagles Running Back

Welp, this is mistake #2. A very important part about being good in fantasy football is being able to admit you were wrong about someone and to not continue to start him. I previously suggested getting Wendell Smallwood of the Eagles once Ajayi was hurt, but this has proven to be a mistake. This backfield has turned into a 3 headed monster with Clement, Smallwood, and Adams. These three all seem to have a presence in the offense, but none have out shined the other two. Darren Sproles should be back eventually and my biggest suggestion is to stay away from any Eagles RB and if you have Smallwood or Clement attempt to trade them.

Week 7 Interview With a Special Guest

Special Guest

Today I am welcoming a close friend of mine and fellow blogger Jacob Milligan for an interview. Please check out his sports blog here. Jacob’s blogs contain coverage of all sports from Baseball to Golf. Through his blog that he updates very frequently he averages around 1000 views per post. A frequent co-writer with him Ron Gutterman got a job as an intern of Lakers Nation because of his co-writes with Jacob. For a little more credibility check out their twitter account Lakers Nation Twitter which has over 400,000 followers. I grew up with Jacob and we were actually so close we were voted dynamic duo of our high school our senior year and this is why I am able to co-write with him. Jacob is currently in my fantasy league and at the end of the blog I will include a photo of the trophy we are competing to prove we take fantasy football way too seriously.

Dude

Question: Who is Your Main Dude for Week 7?

Cincinnati Bengals RB, Joe Mixon: Entering week 7, no defense looks less likely to make a quick change than the Kansas City Chiefs. I really like the match up for Bengals running back, Joe Mixon. After missing week 3 and 4 due to injury, Mixon has had back to back solid weeks. He has had touchdowns both weeks and looks healthy again.”

Ross’s thoughts: I think this is a great match up entering week 7 as he is playing a very week defense and I believe Mixon can capitalize huge off of his recent success. He gets my stamp of approval as a must start for week 7.

Question: With All of These Byes Week 7 Who is a Good Dude to Stream?

Cincinnati Bengals WR, Tyler Boyd: “Tyler Boyd from the Bengals is another guy to plug into your starting lineup if you have a wide receiver on bye. Behind A.J. Green, Boyd has stepped up and taken the wide receiver 2 spot for the Bengals this year. Just like Joe Mixon, Boyd always faces a very good match up against a weak, Chief secondary. The Bengals are playing very well this season and Boyd has been a huge part of their success so far.

Ross’s thoughts: I began to be hesitant to agree with Jacob on this pick, but I have been convinced that Tyler Boyd is a dude. The Chiefs defense has looked awful all season and I believe Tyler Boyd will score a touchdown against them allowing him to be a great streamer for week 7.

Dud

Question: Who is a Dud With a Lot of Hype Around Him for Week 7?

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR, Mike Evans: Mike Evans always seems to have too much hype surrounding him entering the year, but he always goes top 2 or 3 rounds. Jameis Winston and Evans have never really developed a connection the past two seasons. Evans played well the first three games while Winston was suspended, with a touchdown and over 80 yards receiving in each game. The two games Evans has played with Winston he has not reached 60 yards receiving. Evans has a lot of potential, but his quarterback continues to hold him back.

Ross’s thought: I am not going to agree with Jacob on this one as I see Mike Evans deserves a spot in lineups. It is true that Evans connection with Jameis Winston has been week, but Mike Evans is way too talented to bench. Do not be the fool benching Mike Evans and having Evans outscore all of your starters.

Question: Who is a Dud you Should Finally Just Rid of Off of Your Roster?

Arizona Cardinals WR, Larry Fitzgerald: Larry Fitzgerald is a first ballot Hall of Famer and one of the best wide receivers of this generation but father time has catch up to him and father time is undefeated. Fitzgerald is also working with a rookie quarterback, Josh Rosen, which hurts his productivity. Fitzgerald has had a great career, but his last season is not one to remember for him.”

Ross’s thoughts: Anyone who does not exceed 40 yards more than once in 6 games should be dropped immediately. On top of the lack of yardage he is yet to record a TD this year. I know he is every ones beloved veteran, but his time has come. Drop Larry Fitzgerald.

(The Fantasy Football Trophy of the league Jacob and me are in)

Fantasy Football Dudes or Duds: Week 5

Welcome to Dudes or Duds. I am here to tell you what players are all hype and which players are the real deal. The Dude or Dud posts will tell you not only who you should pick up, but the posts should tell you who to trade for and who to not.

Dude

Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE: Cameron Brate

Cameron Brate is a great pick up since O.J. Howard is out. With just about every TE and their cousin injured right now here is your chance to pick up one of Jameis Winston’s beloved targets. Jameis Winston has been named the starter for week 6 (week 5 is a blog for Tampa Bay). While reading an article on NFL.com I discovered when Winston is the starting QB, “Brate has seen 14 percent of the Bucs’ targets and averaged 10.7 fantasy points per game (low-end TE1 in PPR).” compared to the measly 7% targets Brate received when Ryan Fitzpatrick was QB. Pick Brate up if you are in need of help at the TE position.

Dude

Jacksonville Jaguars RB: T.J. Yeldon

Yeldon is an instant relief for a few weeks for those looking for running back help. Leonard Fournette, the lead back, has been already deemed out week 5 and it is very murky on when he will be able to return to action. Fournette is yet to play a full game which has proven to be extremely beneficial to all T.J. Yeldon. According to Sport News, “Yeldon is a must-add in the 51 percent of Yahoo leagues where he’s available”. With availability so high with T.J. Yeldon I recommend to pick him up if he is still a free agent in your league, but I do not recommend you to trade for him because he is only a short term selection for the time being.

Dud

New England Patriot’s RB: James White

I would like to begin stating I think James White is a talented player with some upside, however he is on the Patriots. Patriots are the most unpredictable team in Fantasy Football. The only reliable players in the past few years are Brady and Gronk. James White had 2 TDs week 4, but next week it could easily be Sony Michel or Kenjon Barner. With a history of inconsistencies I would recommend trying to sell him now while his stock is high. If he is still addable I recommend leaving him alone.

Dud

Houston Texans WR: Keke Coutee

Who is Keke Coutee? Oh yeah he is a rookie slot WR drafted in the 3rd round. Keke has been on almost every “Pick’em up” or “Waiver Wire” article I have read and honestly I do not believe the hype surronding him. There is a better chance Lamar Miller, Deandre Hopkins, Will Fuller, and Watson’s legs will score before Keke does. I believe he will catch a few more TDs in his 2018 campaign, but I do not believe he is worth an add unless you are in a very deep league.

Fantasy Football Dudes or Duds: Week 4

Welcome to Dudes or Duds. I am here to tell you what players are all hype and which players are the real deal. The Dude or Dud posts will tell you not only who you should pick up, but the posts should tell you who to trade for and who to not.

Dude

Jacksonville Jaguars WR: Keelan Cole

Keelan Cole is the WR 1 in Jacksonville and his QB is hot. The undrafted free agent has made a name for himself and I don’t see him going any where anytime soon (barring any injuries of course). Keelan is a WR you may not be able to pick up anymore, but he is a WR I believe you can get for cheap. The upside of the young WR is plentiful with very little down side at the price you would need to pay for him. The Jaguars had a rough week 3, but I believe Keelan Cole will be a easy player to target in a trade with his price being low. Do not allow Keenan Cole’s performance to discourage you as he finished with a team high 9 targets proving he is the top option in Jacksonville.

Los Angeles Chargers WR: Mike Williams

Mike Williams had a poor rookie season last year struggling with injuries, but his 2018 campaign is off to a great start. If he is still available in your league go and get him! He is currently the #2 WR for the Chargers behind Keenan Allen. Phillip Rivers has had a very promising start and is ranked the #7 QB right now in fantasy. Mike Williams currently has 3 TDs in the last two weeks and I believe he will continue to roll all season and not only be a WR #2 for the Chargers, but a WR #2 for your fantasy team.

Dud

Kansas City Chiefs WR: Sammy Watkins

SELL HIGH! I saw him on many pick’em up lists last week. He went on to score a touchdown week 3, but I see him as a player who only catches 3 to 4 more touchdowns in 2018. The Chiefs have Patrick Maholme’s legs, Kareem Hunt, Travis Kelce, and Tyreek Hill all taking touchdowns away from Sammy Watkins. He is a risky start, so why not trade for a more consistent WR.

Baltimore Ravens RB: Javorious Allen

Javorious Allen has 4 touchdowns in the first 3 weeks, but if you look at his stat line he only has 32 rush yards in those weeks. The lack of volume is extremely concerning and Javorious Allen is splitting carries, so I would not pick him up unless you truly had to. If you have him already I would look for possible trade options for him.

Fantasy Football Dude or Dud: Week 3

Welcome to the first official post of Dudes or Duds. I am here to tell you what players are all hype and which players are the real deal. The Dude or Dud posts will tell you not only who you should pick up, but the posts should tell you who to trade for and who to not.

Dude

Philadelphia Eagles RB: Corey Clement

The Eagles are infected with the injury bug right now. With starting running back Jay Ajayi out with a back injury and Darren Sproles out with a hamstring injury. Therefore Corey Clement is on top of the depth chart. The Eagles have a beefy line and the defenses should be focusing on the return of Carson Wentz and not on the run game. Corey Clement has proven to productive with the other running backs healthy so I predict Corey Clement to be a solid RB2 start week 3.

Dude

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB: Jameis Winston

Trade/pickup Winston while you still can. Ryan Fitzpatrick is red hot right now. Jameis Winston’s suspension is over after week 3. In the preseason Winston finished with an average of 126.9 QBR over the 3 games he played in(according to www.fantasy.nfl.com). Not many people are, but I am confident he wins the starting job. The Buccaneers offense is loaded with weapons in the passing game. At the end of the year I predict Winston to finish as a top 10 QB despite missing 3 games.

Dud

Jacksonville Jaguars RB: Corey Grant

Yes, another Corey and he is on the other side of the spectrum as our first dud of the list. I see many lists all over suggesting to pick up Corey Grant. My advice, don’t. According to www.espn.com there is a good chance Leonard Fournette might be starting week 3. Fournette is the workhorse RB in Jacksonville and if he is active I would deem Corey Grant as at most a sloppy start in the flex in a deep league. Corey Grant might have some upside if Fournette is hurt, but I see Fournette getting back on the field soon.

Dud

Seattle Seahawks TE: Will Dissly

The hype is all around Will Dissly right now. Currently in my league he ranks as the #1 TE. Dissly should be hitting a plateau soon as I see him as the typical yearly TE who is only hot for a few gams. The TE position usually has a player with couple good games causing everyone to desire them. With Greg Olsen and Delanie Walker out for a good chuck of time there should be a high demand for TEs in your league and if your lucky enough to have Dissly I believe now is the time to sell. Unless Dissly scores week 3 his stock is only going to go down.

Dudes or Duds not your Typical Fantasy Football Blog

What Will I see in Upcoming Blogs and Why is this Blog Different than the rest?

Welcome to my fantasy football blog where I will tell you what players are the real deal and which players are not worth your time. Dudes or duds will not be a typical Start’em Sit’em blog. I will also help let you know of players you should trade for or pick up. I will focus mainly on standard scoring leagues, but I will also acknowledge ppr players in the descriptions of certain players. Through player review and insight Dudes or Duds should help you whether you are a hardcore fantasy player or if you are casual player looking for quick advice with their lineup. You will also get to see read a interview I will have with Jacob Milligan (the writer of the https://t.co/svi6Jcel0w ) Jacob averages about 1,000 views on each blog on each his biweekly posts.

Why should I trust this blog if you are only a Sophomore in college?

I have been playing fantasy football since I was in middle school. Leading into my 6th year of playing fantasy football I have only placed out of top 3 in my 8 man league once.  I play in other leagues such as ppr, but I focus mainly on my 8 man league. Every Sunday I find a way to watch RedZone from the 10 a.m. games all the way to the kickoff Sunday night. In addition to binge watvhing I actively follow Adam Rank and Adam Schefter on twitter to stay up to date on football and fantasy football. My last source I rely is a podcast on YouTube from called “Fantasy Pros”. If you are interested in looking into these sources I left a link at the bottom of my blog. Below I added two photos and these are the players I drafted in the league I am serious about. I decided to include the graphic to show you what kind of players I liked going into the draft.

img_2517img_2516

Example Of a Blog

For the example of the blog I am going to use player a player I thought was going to be a Dude to draft and Dud to draft

Dude: Michael Thomas

Michael Thomas is in a high powered offense and he proved to be Bree’s favorite target last season. I believe he is a steal if you can possibly get him any time in the 2nd round. Ppr or standard I believe Michael Thomas will be a solid WR and will finish a top 3 WR in fantasy. He is by far the best WR on his team, possibly even the league. I highly recommend to go grab him as soon as you can in drafts.

 Dud: LeSean Mccoy

LeSean Mccoy has been a player  I have been high on in the past, but all players eventually experience wear and tear. I believe most running backs are good for 4 years then experience a drop off. Mccoy has not seen his drop off yet, however I believe 2018 is the year he finally hits the RB wall. Also the Bills still need to figure out their QB situation because other teams are likely to stack the box against him. We could see the situation he is in be like the 2016 version of Todd Gurley where the lack of QB play caused all of their opponents to stack the box against the RB.i

About Me

My name is Ross William Potter and I am the writer of this blog. I am a Sophomore attending Chico State from Southern California in a small town called La Habra which is near Los Angeles. In my free time I like to hangout with friends, go on hikes, watch sports, and play soccer. I decided to create this blog because I spend almost every Sunday during the Fall/Winter on the couch watching RedZone on TV. Another thing I really enjoy doing is traveling. I spent my Summer studying abroad in Prague for a month and after that I stayed with a close friend of mine at his house in Austria. I travel almost every opportunity I get. I plan on going to visit friends I made abroad in Chicago and Missouri during Spring Break.

My name:

My first name originates from my Great Great Grandma Debbie Ross. My father’s grandma had the last name Ross and my mom really liked the ring with it, so it was pretty easy decision with my dad’s motto of, “Women are always right”. It also leads to many Friends and Department Store jokes (Dress For Less).

This leads me to the explanation of the least exciting part of my name as it came from no special origin and it does not lead to unique nicknames like my first and last name. My parents simply decided to make my middle name William because they liked it. Personally, I have no problem with it as it makes my name sound proper.

Lastly, my last name is my favorite part of my name because it is a great conversation start. Once a Harry Potter junkie hears that my last name is Potter it always excites them. The last name came from my father’s side of the family and their English descent. I do not know much about my father’s side of his family because he is adopted, but this has never left him and I am glad it hasn’t. I know you are wondering and yes I did have an ancestor named Harry Potter (My Great Grandpa).

What do people misunderstand about me?

People see my see how small I am and many perceive me as someone who may not be that good at sports,  however I am really good at sports. Athleticism runs in my family as my grandpa had a scholarship when he went to college from Oregon State to play center and my Dad currently runs Ironmans which is a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, and 26.22 mile run. I am very thankful I came from the family I did. When I play sports I am usually one of the first picks in the sport we play if I am playing with friends. If I am playing with people I do not know then I tend to be one of the last picks. I have played soccer my whole life and grew up playing pick up games of football and basketball. The thing that really helps me thrive in these sports even though I am only 5’7″ is my speed and elusiveness. I believe if I was taller I would be an even better athlete, but I am very content about how athletic I am. I definitely enjoy getting picked really late in sports because it allows me to play whatever sport with low expectations and it allows me to completely surprise people. Even though people misunderstand my physical ability because of an assumption I really do not mind because it makes me happy seeing people so surprised when I get out on the field or court.

What do you wish your teachers knew/understood about you?

My Freshman year I only attained one B and the grade was a B+.  However my sophomore year has not gone exactly as I planned. I am currently in two writing intensive, a lab and very homework intensive classes. On top of all the work I am on a committee and playing for the club soccer team while I am also the Director of Membership for one of the largest business clubs on campus (American Marketing Association). I do not get home from school till 6 or 7 most days (excluding Fridays). I spend much of my weekend trying to balance homework, soccer, and planning the next meeting for American Marketing Association. I am also consistently reaching out to potential employers because I am currently trying to get an internship this Summer. With all of this going on I have not been able to make school my sole focus. I promise you I always put school first, but there are just some days when there are just not enough hours in the day to perfect my assignments like I would like to. I plan on continuing to try my best at everything I do. Please just understand I try my hardest I can to get you the best work I possibly can.  wish my teachers would know that I put forth the best effort I possibly can. I also want you to know I am extremely hardworking. Even though I may be very busy, I am busting my butt to try to do the best at every single thing I do.

P.S. I have discovered coffee to work magics ever since the school year started.

How do you define “family”? What’s important to you regarding family?

To me family is defined as blood related relatives that always have your back no matter what happens. The most important thing to me regarding family is that whoever it is should be there for me even if we do not get a long a lot. My older sister and I have an extremely rough relationship, but we are always there for each other when it matters and I wish the best for her in all of her future endeavors. I try to aid any family member I can any time I can especially the ones that are older. I deem it extremely important to spend time with older relatives that do not have much time left and appreciate every moment that you have with them. I spend a lot of time when I visit my grandma doing chores to try to help her out and show her how much I love her. I also find it very important to stay in contact with my relatives. I try my best to reach out to even my most distant relatives a couple times a year. I find it incredible when I hear the joy in the infliction of a relatives voice when I call just to check in and hearing their joy honestly brings me a lot of joy too.

What is Special About my Hometown?

My hometown is La Habra, California which is located in Orange County. To many people from Northern California I just tell them I live next to Disneyland or I just tell them that I live in Los Angeles. La Habra is a special town because it has almost everything within an hour driving distance. You could spend a day snowing up in Big Bear then turn around the next day and surf down at Huntington Beach which is only 40 minutes away. There are many nights I spent driving around Los Angeles or driving 20 minutes to go to Downtown Fullerton to have fun. In the town itself it lacks the traffic of Los Angeles and has some really fun things such as golfing, really good high school football,a skate park, movie theater, and more. La Habra is not a town where one would need to make their own fun. If you have trouble having fun in the town of La Habra or around it then I strongly believe you are looking for the wrong things. If anyone is a fan of amusement parks there is more than Disneyland close to La Habra, there is Knott’s Berry Farm, Universal Studios, and Six Flags. One of special things within La Habra is the number of date places there are. In La Habra there are so many great date spots such as hipster food places, a downtown with many small shops and lights, and there are many spots that over look the many surrounding cities. If you ever get the chance come check out the small town of La Habra, California.

If you could give your past self one piece of advice what would it be? And Why?

If I could give my past self some advice I would tell myself to not worry about what others think of you. There are many times in my life that I have worried about others may think of me and I have held myself back from doing something that I would have wanted. At the end of the day most people come and go in your life and I do not think you should ever keep yourself from doing something because it is perceived as uncool or lame. To some people they were on top of the world in high school and would not do homework and go out every weekend and party, but at the end of the day these individuals may have seemed “cool” at the time, but seeing them now I am glad I never tried to be “cool” like them. However, there were times I wish I would do stuff like like no go to certain concerts because people thought the band was weird or I would not have anyone to go with and I did not want to seem weird going alone by myself. Looking back on it I really wish I went to more concerts like that because at the end of the day those peoples opinions would not have mattered to me and I may have been a happier person if I went. I adopted this attitude over the Summer, but I really wish I had this attitude earlier in life when I was growing up.
